A Rare Dolls' House Lithophane
A marvelous and hard to find piece, this
lithophane is made of a pewter/pot metal. The lithophane itself is made of
porcelain and has a carved scene which is only visible when the back side
is illuminated. For our purposes of viewing the scene, I merely have to
put it up in front of a light! Here we can see a young girl playing with
rabbits. In the dolls' house, you would place a candle in the back which
has an attached candleholder on the back of the stand. Lithophanes are an
exciting topic and one which I enjoyed writing about in one of my
newsletters. (I would be happy to send that article with the lithophane to
the buyer).
