A Lovely Boulle Bookcase
This is one of my favorite pieces of Boulle
furniture! The cabinet doors have glass inserted and what I like are the
different shapes of the glass doors. These are a gothic style, since they
are pointed at the top. I have seen them rounded on top or straight across
to give a rectangular shape to the glass. This is a bookcase with storage
in the long narrow drawer and the cabinet below. The gold transfer work is
wonderful around the glass doors and on the pediment above. The interior
of the bookcase on top has blue paper which is in very good condition.
This piece could be found in a bedroom, parlor, hallway or library. The
white banding helps to define each section of the cabinet and the edges
are painted black.
