Early Framed Portraits on Ivory
These circular wooden portraits came from Germany and show a gentleman and woman of the early 19th Century. Their clothing does indicate an earlier period as seen in the man’s high color and ruffled shirt. The lady is wearing a hat that covers her hair, much like a night cap. The gold inner frame with a border of beading certainly enhances each portrait. A thin piece of glass over each portrait protects each painting on ivory.
This pair of portraits would be lovely in a parlor, hallway or bedroom!
Measurements: The portraits are 3-3/8”h. x 2-7/8”w.
