An Incredible Early Kestner Desk
This desk has such a beautiful grain of wood to it along with several unusual features. First, notice the drop front that is made of one curved piece of wood! The trim work on each side of the drop front is black, just as it is on all three levels. You have two large drawers on top, a gallery with little finials holding the wire in place that surrounds the back and sides and a large drawer at the bottom that has an apron below it. The beautiful mahogany wood with the white banding between each section and the black accents just give it such a grand presentation. Now let’s look at the interior of the desk. We notice flanking small drawers on each side of a recessed centered mirror! The writing surface is covered in aqua paper. (It looks green, but it is aqua). There are eight original knobs still intact. There are four nicely turned legs. (Note: If I were going to leave the drop front down and display it open, I would put a little paper just under the drop front to hold it up higher. Remember this desk is about 175 years old). For its age, it is in very nice condition. The original deep blue paper is all intact on the back. All original condition.
Measurements: From top of finials to the floor, desk stands 5-1/4”h. x 4-1/8”w.
