A Rock and Graner Lithophane
For those of you who have gotten my newsletters, there is one whole article on how Lithophanes were made. Briefly they are realistic pictures of light passing through translucent panes of porcelain. They depict fables, pastoral scenes, landscapes, or of children playing. They originated in France in 1827. The miniature Lithophanes are very rare and difficult to find. There is a special piece of metal on the back that comes to a point so that a candle can be stuck on and used for lighting the Lithophane. (Note: I would be happy to share the whole story of Lithophanes for interested buyers).
