An Outstanding Marklin Fireplace
This incredible fireplace has an asphaltum wash on it (brown wash) with the details highlighted in gold paint. You may also notice from the photos that parts of the side columns are painted in a marbleized fashion using a black background with shades of green. The details on the columns and the design work under the scalloped mantle which has more marbleizing work is certainly a beautiful sample of this fireplace. Over the hearth area are designs accented in gold paint and the hearth has a grate done in soft metal painted gold. The original red foil paper is still there to resemble a burning fire. The floor is done in a checkered pattern in gray, cream and black. This is a remarkable piece to accent that special room! A great painting or ormolu mirror over the mantle would be splendid.
